Lean Into the One Who Knows You

WHEN GOD BRINGS YOU FULL CIRCLE Devotion : Day One
Psalm 139: 1-6
139 O Lord, You have searched me and known me. 2 You know my sitting down and my rising up; You understand my thought afar off. 3 You [a]comprehend my path and my lying down, And are acquainted with all my ways. 4 For there is not a word on my tongue, But behold, O Lord, You know it altogether. 5 You have [b]hedged me behind and before, And laid Your hand upon me.6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; It is high, I cannot attain it.
The God who created you knows you - completely. Psalm 139 verses 1-6 awaken us to the depth of His all-encompassing knowledge of us. They are an invitation to reflect on His omnipotence and ever-present nature.
Whether casually or formally, we often come to God consumed with ourselves—our failures, needs, circumstances, shortcomings, and problems. God, in His wisdom and understanding, gives us these verses to lead us beyond ourselves into reverence and worship, rightly recognizing His absolute sovereignty and deity.
Resting securely in these truths should quiet our concerns and spare us from the flood of self-focused human tendencies we so often bring before God. He is fully aware of our frailty. He is a good listener and is always a gentleman.
Stay with these verses until the reality of His omnipotence becomes more real to you than your own limitations. In His endless patience, He continually and graciously extends kindness and mercy. Remain in this place until your heart is truly resting in Him.
Use these reflection questions to help you remain in His presence. Go deep and answer honestly before the Lord. If you are struggling, ask for His understanding and for the Holy Spirit to bring the peaceful submission only He can produce. Submit yourself to God’s truth and character, then rest in Him. He knows you better than you know yourself—and still loves you completely.
Ponder these questions:
How does it affect your heart to know that God knows you completely?
Does His perfect knowledge bring conviction, comfort, or both?
Are you humbled? Are you grateful? Does it make you feel secure?
In what ways can you rest more fully in His sovereignty today?
How does the reality of God’s thorough knowledge of you change the way you pray, speak, and live?
Today, focus on one difficult personal area you are struggling with –choose to stop striving in your own efforts. Instead, choose to lay it before the God who knows you completely. Spend intentional time with Him in honesty and surrender. Lay down your fears, your self-focus, and any need for control. Trust the One who knows every thought, every struggle, every weakness, and every hope—and loves you faithfully through it all. Journal what you hear Him saying.
Prayer:
Lord, I pray for the person or persons who are reading this today. I pray you meet each of us individually as only You can. Help us to be grateful for Your all-knowing, ever-present protection, mercy, and love. Quiet us and teach us to rest confidently in Your sovereignty. Search our hearts, reveal anything that keeps us from deeper fellowship with You, and lead us in your ways. Thank you for knowing us completely and loving us perfectly. Help us leanfully into You with trust, humility, and worship. In Jesus' name. Amen.
